Ever heard of blue tansy? It's one of my favorite essential oils. Uniquely blue in color, this essential oil is a master at calming any kind of skin redness or irritation. It is cooling, soothing, harmonizing, and calming, much like the color. Using it, you feel as if you've drifted off to some exotic place, the fragrance being sweet and subtle, like nothing you've smelled before. Its roots link all the way back to ancient Egyptian, African, and Mediterranean cultures, having the ability to calm the mind and reduce stress, resetting your mental focus for the day. I love using it with acupressure on Liver-3 (which is located between the 1st and 2nd metarsal bones on your feet, about two fingerbreadths above where the skin of the 1st two toes meet). This is a very effective point to move qi and reduce stress. Feel for the most tender spot and massage for a minute or two.
I also love using skin care products that contains it, my favorite being May Lindstrom’s The Blue Cocoon. It's unbelievably luxurious and helps relieve everything from rosacea to sunburn. You can also make your own blend, using a carrier oil such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil, or argan oil, to create a soothing facial oil or skin balm. All you need to add is a drop to about a dime-size amount of carrier oil.
Blue tansy is an oil I particularly love including in my acupuncture treatments when relieving stress and anxiety. It’s a great way to focus your mind and body’s healing abilities while you’re relaxing. I feel it acts as a guide, reminding you to pay attention to your body’s needs, and allowing it to balance and heal.
